Glide, with 12" plastic parasheet in pod |
Estes D12-3 |
Addition of a roll tab may have helped this glider a little bit; it
seemed to get more boost altitude, and recover more quickly into a glide
than on previous attempts, with the result that there was actually enough
glide to see and enjoy as such. I'll try a little higher setting
on the roll tab for next flight. |

Glide, with 12" streamer in pod |
Estes 1/2A3-2T |
Entirely nominal flight, good transition to glide and good glide.
This is turning out to be a very reliable glider. |

Featherweight |
Estes 1/2A6-2 |
Good, normal flight, but broke one fin dowel loose from the brace on
landing. Easily repaired, but not something I cared to do at the
field. |

12" plastic parasheet w/ spill and vents |

Another ho-hum perfect flight from the old reliable. B) |

12" plastic parasheet w/ spill and vents |
Estes D12-7 |
One more nominal flight; in this case, for some reason, the parachute
opened inside out -- that is, the printed pattern was underneatch, and
the plain white side was on top. No problem with the function, it
just looked odd and took me a couple minutes to undo. |

12" plastic parasheet |
Estes D12-7 |
This was a perfect flight, everything one could wish for, including
returning so close I was able to easily take a few steps and catch the
model by the shock cord as it descended. Unfortunately, that action
caused the nose cone to bang the tip of one fin, where the feather-thin
sanded edge folded. I trimmed off the folded section, and don't expect
it to affect flight. |

Glide, with 12" streamer in pod |
Estes 1/2A3-2T |
Another excellent flight, with close recovery of both pod and glider
this time. |

12" plastic parasheet w/ spill and vents |
Estes A8-5 |
The Alpha is another "old reliable" design like the Big Bertha -- and
has been around about as long. It flies as well as one might expect
for a design that's lasted that long, too, and this flight was no exception. |

One more good flight from a reliable rocket design. |

Glide, with 12" streamer in pod |
Estes 1/2A3-2T |
Still another perfect flight; this time, the glider seemed to get some
assistance from light lift, and stayed up longer than normal, perhaps as
long as a minute (unfortunately, I didn't have a stopwatch on the flight).
As this flight used my last 1/2A3-2T, I had to stop flying this model for
the day. |

12" plastic parasheet w/ spill and vents |
Quest C6-5 |
Once more I had the rod angle perfectly set, and the model returned
just a few feet from the pad; by taking a few steps and holding out my
hand, I was able to catch the model by the shock cord. Given the
lateness of the hour, and the fact that all the other club members had
packed up and gone, I did likewise. |
